Review (3) Linger - Maggie Stiefvater

Pages: 368
Publisher: Scholastic (July 20, 2010)
Synopsis(from book): In Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. Now, in Linger, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping a very dangerous secret about her own well-being. For Sam, this means grappling with his werewolf past . . . and figuring out a way to survive into the future. Add into the mix a new wolf named Cole, whose own past has the potential to destroy the whole pack. And Isabel, who already lost her brother to the wolves . . . and is nonetheless drawn to Cole.

At turns harrowing and euphoric, Linger is a spellbinding love story that explores both sides of love—the light and the dark, the warm and the cold—in a way you will never forget.

My Rating:

Review

Plot:
This is the second book in Maggie Stiefvater's Wolves of Mercy falls series, the sequel to Shiver. Sam and Grace seem to be closer than ever. As in the first book, there are plenty of obstacles to overcome, but they seem to make their way through them quite easily. There are some new characters, like Beck's two new wolves; Cole and his best friend Victor. Since it is Beck's last year, and he wont be changing back, Sam is now in charge of the werewolves. He has a lot more responsibility, which he finds to be very overwhelming. It is Sam's duty to help the new wolves with their transformations, but this proves to be very difficult, especially with Cole because their personalities seem to clash. At first, the are like Day and Night. However, as their past life secrets get out, they learn more about each other and start to show each other some respect, and actually get along. Cole really surprises Sam at the end, when all seems to be lost and he has no reason for living, Cole reassures him and comes up with a solution.

My Thoughts:
I liked this book as much as the first one. I really like Grace, she's a very easy character to relate to. Her relationship with Sam is almost magical, they have such amazing chemistry. Every time someone/something jeopardizes their relationship, they still find a way to be together, they are so determined to make things work out. I really like Maggie Stiefvater's writing style in this series, and I also like that she uses more than one narrator. It lets you get inside character's head, and makes them more likable. The ending of the book didn't quench my thirst, so to speak. It wasn't as satisfying as I had hoped, but it keeps me waiting for the next one!

Follow Friday and Book Blogger Hop (1)

This is my first time participating for both the memes. :)

Follow Friday is a meme hosted by Parajunkee's View.

This week's Question: Inspired by the inane twitter trend of #100factsaboutme, give us five BOOK RELATED silly facts about you.
1) If it's a good book, I just read and read, neglecting things I should be doing, and staying up way to late.
2) My hair has to be in a pony tail otherwise I twirl and curl, just your basic fidgeting with it.
3) I cannot listen to music while reading. Absolutely cannot! It distracts me too much.
4) I've successfully broken my habit of dog-earing, which I'm REALLY proud of.
5) I get sick if I read in the car or on a bus, but reading on the subway is perfectly fine. It's really specific/weird, i know.

Book Blogger Hop is a meme hosted by Crazy for Books.

This week's question: If you could physically put yourself into a book or series…which one would it be and why?

THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS! It's one of my favourite series, I simply fell in love with the books and the characters. I absolutely love the idea of fantastical creatures co-existing with the "real world", and of course the shadow hunters<3.

Review (2) Beautiful Darkness - Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Pages: 512
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (October 12, 2010)
Synopsis(from book): Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

Review

Plot:

The battle between Dark and Light continues. The book starts of where the first book (Beautiful Creatures) ends, and when we first see Ethan and Lena, they are getting ready for Macon Ravenwood's (Lena's uncle) funeral. It seems Gatlin has returned back to it's old boring state. But then, Ethan hears it, the song he's been hearing for the past year, only this time it's; Seventeen Moons. Things seem to change for then on, because Ethan knows it's not over yet. Lena is faced with the same problem as last year. She has to choose her fate on her Seventeenth Moon. Macon's death only makes matters worse, and to cope with it, she has been spending a lot of her time with Ridely (her dark cousin) and her mysterious friend John. Ethan thinks Ridely is going to influence Lena's decision and force her to go dark. But the more he tries to convince Lena, the more she shuts him out. Ethan starts to feel unwanted, and almost gives up on Lena and tries to move on. However, when the visions return and more secrets get revealed; he finds out that Lena is truly the love of his life, and he owes her his life. So with Link(his best friend), and Liv(his new, British co-worker) he chooses to fight for her. On his quest to find her, he is exposed to a whole different underworld he never knew existed in his very own Gatlin. He realizes in the end, it doesn't matter which side she chooses, as long as they're together, they can get through everything.

My Thoughts:

I found this book very intriguing, it goes really deep into the history of Gatlin. The plot is completely unpredictable and everything seems so deep. Everyone is connected, and not only in the real world, but also in the underworld. The characters are very well thought out, and even the smallest, insignificant character has a huge part to play in the end, it's like they all have a purpose. I'm really anticipating the next book, and it's new exciting twists.

Review (1) Identical - Ellen Hopkins

My Rating:

Review: So, let's jump right into it; I really enjoyed reading this book. It was my first Ellen Hopkins, and I have to say, I'm already a HUGE fan!

The story itself was very interesting, a definite page-turner. It is about two typical teenage girls(twins) Kaeleigh and Raeanne, who are just trying to fit in and get through the world of high school. Unfortunately, their family life is far from perfect, and they don't have the support system they need at this crucial point in their lives. They used to have the perfect life, that every other teenager could only dream of. But ever since 'the accident', their parents barely say two words to each other. They almost never spend time together as a family anymore. They have an alcoholic, over-protective judge for a father, and an indifferent, selfish politician for a mother. Due to their parents' busy schedules, their family life has deteriorated. Raeanne craves the love her father shows Kaeleigh, and wants to be his "little flower". Kaeleigh, on the other hand, seeks attention from her mother. However, as many family secrets start to unveil, the twins stick together and help each other overcome them. The ending has a very exciting twist, it literally made me stop, and re-think... EVERYTHING!

I highly recommend this book. I will defiantly be reading more books by this author. She is so inspirational and her writing style is incredible, it is very well thought out and so creative. I was hooked, right from the first page.
